Position Overview: The Store Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment within the grocery store. This role involves performing various cleaning tasks throughout the store, including sales floors, restrooms, employee areas, and exterior spaces. The Store Housekeeper plays a crucial role in ensuring that the store is welcoming for customers and conducive to a healthy and safe work environment for employees.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. General Cleaning:
    • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in all areas of the store, including sales floors, entrances, employee areas, and storage rooms.
    • Clean and sanitize restrooms regularly, ensuring they are fully stocked with necessary supplies such as toilet paper, soap, and paper towels.
    • Dust shelves, displays, and fixtures to maintain a clean and tidy appearance.
  2. Trash and Waste Management:
    • Empty trash bins in all areas of the store, including restrooms, employee areas, and exterior spaces.
    • Properly dispose of waste according to store policies, including sorting recyclables and organic waste where applicable.
    • Monitor waste levels and replace trash liners as needed to prevent overflow.
  3. Restocking and Supplies Management:
    • Ensure that all cleaning supplies are adequately stocked and stored properly.
    • Refill paper products, soap dispensers, and other necessities in restrooms and employee areas.
    • Notify the Facilities Manager or Store Manager when additional cleaning supplies or equipment are needed.
  4. Spill Response and Safety:
    • Respond promptly to spills or other hazards on the sales floor to prevent accidents and ensure customer and employee safety.
    • Use appropriate cleaning materials and methods to clean up spills, ensuring that the area is safe and dry before reopening it to customers.
    • Place warning signs, such as "Wet Floor" signs, to alert customers and employees to potential hazards.
  5. Exterior Cleaning:
    • Sweep and maintain cleanliness of store entrances, sidewalks, and parking areas.
    • Empty exterior trash bins and ensure that outdoor spaces are free from litter and debris.
    • Clean windows, doors, and exterior surfaces as needed to maintain a welcoming appearance.
  6. Deep Cleaning and Maintenance:
    • Perform regular deep cleaning tasks, such as scrubbing floors, cleaning grout, and washing walls and windows.
    • Assist with special cleaning projects, such as preparing the store for seasonal promotions or after renovation work.
    • Identify and report any maintenance issues, such as broken fixtures or equipment, to the Facilities Manager or Store Manager.
  7. Compliance and Safety:
    • Follow all store policies and procedures related to cleaning, waste disposal, and safety.
    • Adhere to health and safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
    • Participate in safety training sessions and drills as required.
  8. Customer Service:
    • Provide friendly and helpful assistance to customers if needed, such as offering directions within the store.
    • Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor while performing cleaning tasks in customer-facing areas.
    • Assist with additional tasks as requested by the Store Manager or Facilities Manager to support overall store operations.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in housekeeping, janitorial work, or a related field is a plus but not required.
  • Skills:
    • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
    • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
    • Good time management skills and the ability to work independently.
    • Basic knowledge of cleaning techniques and safe use of cleaning products and equipment.
    • Strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
