Position Overview: Cashiers and Servers in a grocery retail environment are responsible for handling customer transactions, providing exceptional service, and assisting with food and beverage service in areas like in-store cafes, delis, or food courts. This role involves accurately processing payments, maintaining cleanliness in the service area, and ensuring a positive customer experience. Cashiers and Servers play a crucial role in delivering high-quality service and contributing to the overall shopping experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Customer Service:
- Greet customers warmly and provide assistance with orders, purchases, and inquiries.
 - Engage with customers to ensure a positive shopping or dining experience, offering product recommendations and answering questions.
 - Address customer complaints or issues promptly and escalate them to the supervisor if necessary.
 
 - Cash Handling and Transaction Processing:
- Operate cash registers, POS systems, and payment processing equipment to accurately complete transactions.
 - Handle cash, credit, and debit card transactions, ensuring correct change and receipts are provided.
 - Balance the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift, reporting any discrepancies to the supervisor.
 
 - Food and Beverage Service:
- Take customer orders in food service areas, such as in-store cafes, delis, or food courts, and ensure they are accurately communicated to kitchen staff.
 - Serve food and beverages to customers promptly and with attention to presentation and portion control.
 - Assist with the preparation of simple food items, such as sandwiches, salads, or beverages, following hygiene and safety standards.
 
 - Cleanliness and Maintenance:
- Maintain a clean and organized checkout or service area, including counters, seating areas, and food preparation stations.
 - Ensure that all food service areas comply with health and safety regulations, including proper food handling and sanitation practices.
 - Replenish supplies such as napkins, utensils, and condiments as needed to ensure the area is well-stocked.
 
 - Product Knowledge and Promotion:
- Stay informed about store promotions, new products, and special offers to effectively assist customers.
 - Promote store loyalty programs and encourage customers to take advantage of ongoing promotions or discounts.
 - Provide product recommendations based on customer preferences and dietary needs.
 
 - Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Work collaboratively with other store employees, including kitchen staff, stockers, and management, to ensure efficient operations.
 - Assist with stocking shelves, cleaning, or other tasks as needed to support the store team.
 - Participate in team meetings and training sessions to stay updated on store policies, procedures, and product knowledge.
 
 - Inventory and Stock Management:
- Monitor stock levels of items such as beverages, condiments, and food supplies, notifying management when replenishment is needed.
 - Assist with the rotation of perishable goods to minimize waste and ensure freshness.
 - Help with receiving and organizing inventory deliveries when required.
 
 - Compliance and Security:
- Adhere to all store policies, procedures, and legal regulations regarding transactions, food safety, and customer service.
 - Monitor the checkout or service area for potential security risks and report any suspicious activity to the supervisor.
 - Ensure compliance with age-restricted product sales, such as alcohol, by verifying customer identification.
 
 
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
 - Experience: Previous experience in customer service, cashiering, or food service is a plus but not required.
 - Skills:
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
 - Basic math skills and ability to handle transactions accurately.
 - Good communication and interpersonal skills.
 - Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
 - Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform tasks that require lifting or bending.
 - Familiarity with food safety and hygiene standards is a plus.
