Position Overview: The Playground Attendant is responsible for supervising and ensuring the safety of children in the playground area of a grocery retail store. This role involves monitoring children’s activities, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and providing excellent customer service to parents and guardians. The Playground Attendant plays a vital role in creating a fun and secure environment for children while their caregivers shop, contributing to an overall positive shopping experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision and Safety:
    • Monitor and supervise children in the playground area, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
    • Enforce playground rules and guidelines to maintain a safe and orderly environment.
    • Respond quickly and appropriately to any accidents, injuries, or incidents, providing first aid if necessary and reporting to the Playground Team Lead.
  2. Customer Service:
    • Greet parents, guardians, and children warmly, providing information about playground rules and activities.
    • Assist parents and guardians with check-in and check-out procedures, ensuring that children are released only to authorized individuals.
    • Address any concerns or questions from parents and guardians, ensuring a positive experience for all visitors.
  3. Playground Maintenance and Cleanliness:
    • Maintain a clean and organized playground area, including equipment, seating areas, and toys.
    • Regularly inspect playground equipment and toys for safety and cleanliness, sanitizing as needed.
    • Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the Playground Team Lead or Store Manager.
  4. Engagement and Activities:
    • Engage with children in play activities, encouraging participation and ensuring that all children feel included and safe.
    • Organize and facilitate age-appropriate games, crafts, or other activities to keep children entertained.
    • Monitor the use of playground equipment to ensure it is being used safely and appropriately.
  5. Incident Reporting and Documentation:
    • Document any incidents, accidents, or safety concerns that occur in the playground area, following store procedures.
    • Communicate with the Playground Team Lead or Store Manager regarding any incidents or issues that require further attention.
    • Maintain accurate records of attendance and any relevant details related to the children in the playground.
  6. Compliance with Safety Regulations:
    • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including those related to child supervision, playground equipment, and first aid.
    • Participate in regular safety training sessions and drills to stay prepared for emergency situations.
    • Ensure that the playground area is compliant with store policies and local regulations.
  7. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with other store employees, including customer service and security staff, to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for customers.
    • Communicate any concerns or suggestions for improving the playground area to the Playground Team Lead or Store Manager.
    • Collaborate with the store team to promote playground events or special activities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; certification in first aid and CPR is required.
  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in a childcare, educational, or recreational setting is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with children and adults.
    • Patience, attentiveness, and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
    • Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities.
    • Ability to enforce rules and guidelines while maintaining a friendly and welcoming demeanor.
    • Physical ability to participate in play activities and perform light cleaning duties.
    • Strong sense of responsibility and commitment to child safety.
